Parking and arrival by train
For drivers, the reference point is the paid parking in Località Castello, in Novate Mezzola. Public-transport users can leave the train at Novate Mezzola station and walk to the trailhead.
In warm months, start in the morning. The lower stone steps pass through chestnut and beech woods, while parts of the final section beyond Codera are exposed to the sun. Fountains and stopping points exist in the main hamlets, but carry water.

Alpine approaches from Val Masino
Experienced hikers can also reach the hut from Val Masino, starting at Rifugio Omio or Rifugio Gianetti. These are not ordinary alternatives to the Novate Mezzola route: they cross high mountain passes and require stable weather, alpine experience and suitable equipment.
